May 12 , 2017
As per reports, a document on international declaration on climate change was signed by the US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson. He called the matter a “serious threat” to the Arctic and mentioned that there is need of action to be taken in order to lessen its potentially harmful effects.
The language in the statement Tillerson signed was contradictory of statements as well as promises that were made by President Trump about climate change.
While Tillerson was endorsing the Arctic Council document, he stated that the US would not rush to formulate its policy.
The US delegation was appreciated by the Canadian foreign minister for signing the document.
