October 1 , 2014
Julia Pierson, director of the US secret service, has said the security breach at the White House, where an intruder got much farther inside the complex than was initially admitted, was “unacceptable.”
She said she took “full responsibility” for what had happened and promised “it will never happen again.”
The intruder, retired military veteran Omar Gonzalez, who was carrying a knife, made it till the East Room till he was apprehended by a guard, reports say.
The secret service has come under severe criticism for a series of lapses that could have endangered President Obama or his family.
