US secret service chief Julie Pierson resigns
October 2 , 2014
Julie Pierson, the director of the US secret service, resigned after increasing criticism of the way she handled a series of security lapses at the White House and her agency’s apparently misleading comments on the breaches.
Her explanations before the government oversight committee of the House of Representatives were widely seen as unconvincing.
Accepting Pierson's resignation, Jeh Johnson, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, praised her three decades of “distinguished service to the secret service and the nation”.
