US President Unveils Immigration Plan Offering Citizenship to 1.8 Million Undocumented Immigrants

  • US President Donald Trump has proposed a controversial bill that outlines a detailed plan of giving citizenship to around 2 million undocumented immigrants over a period of 10 to 12 years in exchange of raising $25 billion to build a wall along Mexico border. Reports say the new immigration plan, unveiled by the White House, includes fate of around 700,000 “Dreamers”, the immigrants who entered the US illegally as children. While the most conservative voices among the Republicans such as Senator Tom Cotton welcomed President Trump’s immigration plan, Democrat leaders such as Senator Dick Durbin criticized the plan by saying it will tear apart families and also “waste billions of American dollars” in erecting “an ineffective wall”.
