The US President Donald Trump has welcomed the resurfacing of the North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un on Saturday after three weeks. After North Korean state media KCNA showed Kim cutting ribbon to inaugurate a fertilizer plant in Suncheon In, Trump tweeted on Saturday that “I, for one, am glad to see he is back, and well!” However, the analysts believe that despite Kim’s public resurgence after 20-days, the prospects of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula seem bleak. Reports say that gunfire was exchanged between North Korea and South Korea around a southern guard post. This is the first such gunshot exchange between the two countries since 2017. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said that at around 7.41 am local time, North Korea fired gunshots across the border and the South Korea responded by broadcasting a warning and firing two shots across the border. The office went on to say that South Korean military has established military communication line with North Korea to understand the situation so that further escalation of situation can be avoided.
