US President Trump to Meet "True Friend" Indian PM Narendra Modi

  • With just few hours from now to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the US President Donald Trump called Modi a “true friend” in a recent tweet (through President’s official Twitter handle @POTUS) and showed enthusiasm in discussing strategic issues. The two leaders will have one-on-one and delegation level meetings at the White House including a reception and a working dinner. Modi met over 600 diaspora Indians, CEOs of 20 American companies and tried to woo them to invest in India. In an Op-Ed in Wall Street Journal, Indian PM Modi has written about Indo-US strategic partnership, convergence of values and interests, Goods and Services Tax, mutual interests in defeating terrorism, and others. Some thorny issues that are likely to come up in the Modi-Trump meet includes H1B visa, climate change, and “America First” or “Make in India”.
