US: NSA bulk phone data collection to end by June 1
May 24 , 2015
The National Security Agency (NSA) will no longer have the legal authorization to collect bulk phone records in the US, though the issue of extending domestic surveillance in the country has remained unresolved in the US Senate.
The Obama administration has decided not to ask a secret surveillance court for a three-month extension of an order needed to collect American phone metadata in the bulk.
Effectively, the NSA cannot collect such data after June 1.
