Matthew Miller, a 24-year-old American national, has been sentenced to six years’ hard labor by North Korea for illegally entering the country and carrying out “hostile acts” against the Asian nation, reports say.
A resident of Bakersfield, California, Miller reportedly tore his tourist visa after arriving in North Korea, saying he sought asylum.
The United States has urged the North Korean government to release Miller and two more US nationals detained by North Korea.
