US Leads in Most Number of COVID-19 Deaths in the World, UK PM Johnson Discharged from Hospital

  • The COVID-19 dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at John Hopkins University shows that the US has surpassed Italy as the country having the highest number of coronavirus deaths. While the death toll in the USA is currently 20,608, the same in Italy is 19,468. On Saturday, the IRS (Internal Revenue Service of the United States) tweeted that they have deposited the first Economic Impact Payments into taxpayers’ bank accounts, which is part of the $2 trillion-bill passed by Congress to stimulate the economy. The total death toll in the world is 110,042. The total global confirmed case of COVID-19 infection is racing towards 2 million (1,792,899 currently), with the most number of cases reported in the US (530,006), Spain (166,019), Italy (152,271), France (130,730), Germany (125,452), China (83,134), and United Kingdom (79,885). Mainland China has reported 99 new COVID-19 infection cases, reaching a 1-month high. Only 2 of them are locally transmitted and the rest 97 are imported cases. Official data released by China on Sunday shows that the single-day imported cases have doubled. China's National Health Commission has reported that the asymptomatic coronavirus cases have doubled to 63 from 34. Meanwhile, Prime Minister of United Kingdom Boris Johnson has been discharged from the hospital after spending 3-nights in ICU for COVID-19 treatment.
