US: Jeb Bush launches presidential campaign with 'optimistic message'

  • Jeb Bush, the former Florida Governor and brother and son of two former US presidents, has officially launched his presidential campaign.

In a speech at Miami, he promised to take “nothing and no one” for granted. Bush spoke in English as well as Spanish — in a nod to the important Latino vote that key Republican candidates are trying to woo.

He said his message “will be an optimistic one.”

Besides focusing on his achievements in Florida, Bush gave a glimpse into his thinking on foreign policy, stressing on the importance of rebuilding “vital friendships” with allies like Israel, and slamming President Obama’s overtures to a “failed Cuba.”
