US: ICE Confirms More Than 1,000 Immigrants to be COVID Positive

According to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, more than 1,000 immigrants in custody in the United States have tested COVID positive. The agency has so far tested 2,172 detainees, amongst which 1,073 have tested positive. And the number of cases in custody is rising by degrees. Hence, ICE is pondering on releasing detainees who are more vulnerable to the infections. As per a statement on ICE's website, the agency has released over 900 individuals after assessing some of the factors such as immigration history, criminal record, potential threat to public safety, flight risk and national security concerns. As of May 9, there were nearly 27,908 detainees in custody.
