US Govt Partially Shuts Down after row over Financing Trump's Border Wall

  • The US Federal government shuts down again, the third time in 2018. On Friday midnight, the federal government shut down partially after the White House and the US Congress failed to reach an agreement on US$5 billion funds for the US President Donald Trump’s border wall with Mexico. Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said the Senate will not vote on Friday night. Therefore, around a quarter of the US federal government funding expired at midnight, leading to the partial shutdown. This is the first time in the last 40 years that the government has shut down thrice in a year. While President Trump called it a “Democrat shutdown”, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called it a “Trump shutdown over Christmas”.
