US: Firefighters battle blazes as Soda Fire burns 260,000 acres
August 16 , 2015
US firefighters are struggling to contain wildfires that are sweeping across large swathes of the Pacific northwest, northern Rocky mountains and other areas.
The largest blaze, Idaho’s Soda Fire, has already burned more than 260,000 acres, reports say.
Winds are making it difficult to contain the fires that have gained in strength due to drought conditions.
Residents in the Idaho-Oregon belt have been advised to evacuate from several areas, and some roads have been shut to visitors.
