US Energy Secretary Rick Perry Refuses to Testify before a "Secret" Impeachment Probe

  • An Energy Department spokeswoman has said on Friday that a member of the US President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, the U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry, will not testify before the Democrat-led impeachment probe against Trump on coming Wednesday next week as requested. Press Secretary, Office of Public Affairs at U.S. Department of Energy, Shaylyn Hynes, said in a statement that Rick Perry “will not partake in a secret star chamber inquisition where agency counsel is forbidden to be present.” She went on to say that Perry will consider an invitation if the considered hearing is open and “the American people can witness” the proceedings. Other Trump administration officials who have been requested to testify before the three House committees leading the impeachment probe include Russell Vought (acting director of White House budget office), Ulrich Brechbuhl (State Department counselor) and David Hale (Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs).
