US Department of Defense Chief of Staff Kevin Sweeney Resigns

  • Rear Admiral Kevin Sweeney (US Department of Defense Chief) has resigned. In a statement, he has said: “the time is right to return to the private sector”. Sweeney was serving the position for the last 2 years, since January 2017. The announcement comes one month after the departure of Defense Secretary James Mattis. In his resignation letter, Kevin Sweeney said that it’s an honor to serve alongside his colleagues in the department. However, he didn’t say anything about Trump. The resignation comes just days before the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo starts his week-long Middle East tour on Tuesday.
