US cuts down an amount of 285 million dollars from the UN budget

  • The US provides the largest contribution of 25% in the regular budget of the United Nations. It has decided to shrink its budget by 285 million dollars this year. The voting was held on Sunday in which the UN General Assembly approved an amount of nearly 5.4 billion dollars for regular operations in 2018-2019. There are cuts in many departments and offices as reported by the office of Secretary-General. Earlier, before the Christmas holidays, there was a statement released by the US President Donald Trump which indicated this cut in the forthcoming budget.
