US conducts air strike in Somalia, targets leader of al-Shabab terror group

  • The US has confirmed launching an air strike against the Islamist terror group al-Shabab in Saakow area of Somalia. According to the official statement of the US defense department, the target of the air strike was a "senior leader." The communique has not revealed the identity of the leader targeted. The air strike was launched two days after a top al-Shabab militant, Zakariya Ahmed Ismail Hersi surrendered before the local police. Only few months back, the al-Shabab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane was killed in a US air strike.
