US-China Trade Deal Likely to be Finalized and Implemented Soon

  • US President Donald Trump tweeted saying he had a long discussion with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping over the on-going trade dispute and consequent increase in tariff. He went on say that the two biggest economies of the world are progressing well towards a possible trade deal. President Trump claimed “big progress being made” in the US-China trade deal, which will be “very comprehensive, covering all subjects, areas, and points of dispute”. Chinese state media also said that the Chinese President talked over the phone with the US President. The report said that Xi Jinping stressed reaching and implementing a consensus-based US-China trade deal. China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said in a statement that “after 40 years of development, Sino-U.S. ties now stand at a historic new starting point”.
