US arrests and strips Indian diplomat

Indian lawmakers are upset over the arrest of an Indian diplomat in New York. An MP referred to this as being a violation of the Vienna convention.
Reports suggest that Devyani Khobragade was arrested an charged with visa fraud and accused of paying her full-time babysitter only $3.31 per hour. After being released on a $250,000 bond, she emailed colleagues and said the authorities repeatedly handcuffed and stripped her. Khobragade mentioned that she was detained along with petty criminals despite the fact that she has immunity, which a State Department official explains only covers offenses related to her work.
Reuters noted the Indian politicians want to appear to be patriotic since elections are approaching and the lawmakers have taken several measures against US diplomats including removing the protective security barriers from in front of the US embassy in Delhi.
The US hasn't apologized and the State Department mentioned that it had informed the Indian Embassy of the incident in writing.
