US and South Korea Say North Korean Missile Test Failed Just After Launch

  • A day after North Korea showed off its military prowess on Saturday to mark the 105th birthday of late state founder Kim Il-sung, the US and South Korean defense officials say that the attempted missile launch (at 5:21 p.m. ET) test failed. Reports say that the missile exploded as soon as it was launched from east coast city of Sinpo.

It has been reported in the media that the US satellites had observed increased activity at Sinpo shipyard this month. Intelligence officers of the US and South Korea are yet to determine the missile type used for test.

US Vice President Mike Pence, who is on his scheduled tour to South Korea, has been briefed about the failed launch of the missile by the administrative officials, report says. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has said that “President has no further comment” on the matter and is aware of the situation.
