US accuses Russia of violating 1987 nuclear pact
July 29 , 2014
The United States has accused Russia of violating a nuclear treaty signed by the Americans and the Soviets in 1987.
The US administration says Russia had conducted missile tests that violated the pact, describing the breach as “a very serious matter”.
According to the US, Russia tested a new cruise missile, which was in violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty president Ronald Reagan had signed with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
A US government official said Russia should return to “compliance with its obligations under the treaty”.
