Uruguay presidential poll: Tabare Vazquez wins run-off

  • Tabare Vazquez, the leftist candidate in Uruguay, has beaten his rival in the presidential run-off polls, results have indicated.

    With over 50% votes counted, Vazquez, the candidate from the ruling Broad Party, won around 53%, while his rival Lacalle Pou of the right-wing National Party got 41%, media reports said.

    Lacalle Pou has reportedly admitted defeat.

    Jose Mujica, the famous incumbent president, was prevented by the constitution from contesting another term.
