United States tightens Iran sanctions over nuclear program

The United States has further tightened sanctions on Iran imposed on the country due to its nuclear program.
The U.S. Treasury has blacklisted several companies and individuals that it believes are contributing to efforts to acquire nuclear weapons.
Iran maintains its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes.
The new financial sanctions impacts companies linked to Iran's defence ministry, the Revolutionary Guards and its national shipping line.
