United States: One in Six Residents in Tennessee are Unemployed
May 1 , 2020
As per Governor Bill Lee, one in six residents in Tennessee of the United States are unemployed. Lee said that the reason behind the unemployment of nearly 400,000 is the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge in Tennessee is similar to many other states, but it is facing the most problems. Lee said the state had to upgrade its system to lodge what he described as “three different pieces or types of unemployment claims” - state, federal, and the self-employed. The system was upgraded last weekend and would soon process and payout 300,000 unemployment claims this week. However, the governor confirmed that there are claims that are yet to be processed, but a “majority of Tennesseans” are getting their claims in this week itself.
