UN strives to make North Korea accountable for human rights violations
November 19 , 2014
The human rights committee of the United Nations general assembly has approved a resolution calling for the security council to refer North Korea’s human rights situation to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The resolution, which is non-binding, will now go to the general assembly vote, media reports say.
Russia and China voted against it.
Earlier this year a UN report had described the human rights situation in North Korea as exceeding all others in “duration, intensity, and horror.”
