Un Security Council votes to endorse truce brokered by Russia and Turkey

  • The 15-member Security Council at the UN voted unanimously in favour of the resolution sponsored by Russia and Turkey calling for ceasefire among warring factions in Syria. The US-backed FSA rebels who have been fighting the Syrian Army and Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters, and have been opposing the ceasefire deal.
    Meanwhile, ceasefire continued to hold in most large parts of Syria although some areas of Hama and Idlib did witness sporadic clashes. The war has displaced over 11 million people and taken the lives of over 300,000 till date.
