July 28 , 2014
The UN security council has called for an unconditional and immediate ceasefire in Gaza amid a mutual blame game between Hamas and Israel over not respecting earlier truce measures, according to media reports.
The statement calls on both parties to “to accept and fully implement” the humanitarian ceasefire during Eid and beyond and make efforts to achieve a “durable and fully respected ceasefire” based on the initiative by Egypt.
With the death toll in the conflict mounting, American president Barack Obama spoke to Israeli PM Binyamin Netanyahu on phone, stressing on the need for an immediate ceasefire.
