May 2 , 2020
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said on Friday that the world leaders should take some of the blame for the devastating impacts the world is witnessing currently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview, Guterres said that the world failed to come together and act in a coordinated manner while combating the pandemic. He went on to say that different countries addressed the pandemic by following their own policies and strategies as per their own perspectives, which allowed the deadly virus to spread rapidly and cause the mayhem globally. The UN Secretary-General also said that there has been dysfunction among the world leaders of the US and China in dealing with the pandemic and the world leadership failed to move in a coordinated manner to solve the dramatic problem. When inquired about US President Donald Trump’s decision of withholding funds for the World Health Organization (WHO), the 71-year old Guterres said that the organization must be supported adequately in the current situation especially for supporting the developing countries.
