June 14 , 2020
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced that the current telecommuting arrangements at UN headquarters in New York will be extended till July 31, 2020. In a letter to all UN staff working at the New York headquarters, the UN chief said that he took this decision “after consulting with senior management and our medical services regarding the COVID-19 situation”. He went on to say that these arrangements will be continually reviewed by the UN and accordingly provide advance notice regarding easing or further extension of these measures. Guterres went on to say in the letter that they are preparing the UN buildings (through deep cleaning of the premises, placing signage around the buildings for maintaining physical distancing, and more) so that the normal working process can be returned in a phased manner. The UN premises will be opened for staff, diplomats, and journalists in 4-phases.
