UN says it has evidence of massacre by Islamic State (ISIS)

  • The United Nations (UN) has evidence that ISIS militants had killed at least 670 prisoners in Mosul and committed “grave, horrific human rights violations” in Iraq, the UN high commissioner for human rights Navi Pillay has said.

The Islamist fighters have seized several areas in north and east Iraq, including Mosul, and forced tens of thousands of Iraqis belonging to minority groups to flee.

Pillay said the militants were targeting people on basis of their religion or ethnicity and “ruthlessly carrying out widespread ethnic and religious cleansing.”
