UN says Countries Not on Track to Meet Climate Goal to Keep Temperature below 2 Degrees Celsius
September 2 , 2018
Head of the Executive Secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Patricia Espinosa, has said just few days before the Bangkok climate-change talks (to be held this week) that the countries are not on track of meeting their goals as agreed upon during 2015 Paris agreement to limit temperatures well below 2 degrees Celsius before century-end. Patricia went on to say that both the public and private sectors in different countries have to work urgently for avoiding the catastrophic effects. During a telephonic interview, UNFCCC head said that many vulnerable countries or islands have to pursue a goal of 1.5 degrees Celsius immediately to avoid catastrophic effects.
