UN Chief Ban Ki-moon expresses 'deep regret' over executions in Indonesia
April 30 , 2015
The UN secretary general has expressed “deep regret” over the execution of eight men in Indonesia for drug offences.
Ban Ki-moon said that capital punishment had no place "in the 21st century”, and called upon the Indonesian government to spare the other prisoners on death row.
Indonesia executed seven foreign nationals, including two Australians, and one Indonesian man by firing squad.
Indonesia has emphasized that executions are necessary to “save the nation from the danger of drugs.”
