UN Approves Budget Hike
December 25 , 2012
The UN General Assembly approved a hike in the two-year budget of the United Nations raising it to about $5.4 billion. On Monday evening, the General Assembly voted to boost up the biennial budget of the international organization by about 5% to allow for greater travel flexibility for the personnel and to allow the UN to hire more resources. Over half the increase in annual expenditure of the UN, is due to the costs incurred by the 33 special missions in Libya, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen and due to the operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
