UN adopts resolution to step up action against Islamic State
November 21 , 2015
The United Nations (UN) Security Council has adopted a resolution to “redouble” action against the Islamic State militant group in wake of last week’s terror attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.
The document drafted by France was adopted unanimously. It urges UN members to take “all necessary measures” in fighting the Islamic State, which has claimed responsibility for the recent Paris attacks, Lebanon bombings as well as the downing of the Russian passenger plane in Egypt.
Meanwhile, the Belgian government has raised the terror alert in the capital Brussels to the highest level, warning of an “imminent threat”.
