Ukrainian President wants UN peacekeepers to enforce ceasefire
February 19 , 2015
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has sought deployment of UN peacekeepers in eastern Ukraine for enforcing the Minsk ceasefire.
He said that the force will help in guaranteeing security when “the promise of peace is not being kept”.
Meanwhile, government troops have withdrawn from Debaltseve town, which had been surrounded by the pro-Russia rebels. Heavy fighting had continued in and around Debaltseve despite the ceasefire.
Reports say that several soldiers have been killed and dozens taken prisoners by the separatists during the withdrawal.
