Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko dissolves parliament
August 26 , 2014
Petro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine, dissolved the country’s parliament and called for snap polls in October amid continuing clashes between government troops and pro-Russian separatist fighters in eastern Ukraine, as per media reports.
Poroshenko said dissolving the parliament, a move, which follows the majority coalition’s break-up in July, was in keeping with the “the expectations of the vast majority” of Ukrainians.
Meanwhile, Kiev has accused Russia of sending armored vehicles in disguise across the border, a claim Moscow denies.
