Ukraine: Rebels free two American aid workers
May 9 , 2015
Separatists in eastern Ukraine have freed two US aid workers seized on April 29.
Masked gunmen had raided the Donetsk offices of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), detaining 37 staff members. While five international staff members were forced to leave the separatist-held territory, two Americans were held.
IRC president and former UK foreign secretary David Miliband said that targeting of aid workers was an “affront” to the organization's principles.
Officials of the so-called People’s Republic of Donetsk had earlier accused the IRC of concealing “eavesdropping equipment”.
