Ukraine, pro-Russian rebels exchange prisoners of war following peace talks

  • Ukrainian government and the Pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine swapped prisoners of war near the city of Donetsk, as per the media reports.  The agreement to exchange 150 Ukrainian servicemen for 225 rebels happened following the peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian envoys along with the separatists and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on 24 December. According to the latest reports, 146 Ukrainian soldiers have been freed for 222 militants. This swapping of prisoners is a part of a 12-point plan formulated to end the pro-Russian uprising.
