Ukraine conflict: President Poroshenko warns of 'full-scale' invasion by Russia

  • Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko has warned of a “full-scale” invasion by Russia amid a spike in fighting in eastern Ukraine.

Russia has consistently denied that its soldiers are involved in the fighting, but Poroshenko told Ukrainian MPs that 9,000 Russian troops had been deployed.

Moscow has, however, previously acknowledged that “volunteers” may have joined the rebel ranks.

The latest clashes in the government-controlled towns of Krasnohorivka and Maryinka have involved heavy weapons and tanks, reports said.
