Ukraine conflict: At least 40 killed; rebels take partial control of Debaltseve

  • An estimated 40 people have been killed in the fighting between government troops and pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine on Friday and Saturday.

While the Ukrainian officials have confirmed the death of 15 soldiers and 12 civilians, the rebels have reported 13 casualties.

The Ukrainian Defense Minister admitted that the town of Debaltseve was "partially controlled" by the rebels.

Terrified civilians have been trying to flee the conflict zone, but thousands remain trapped.

Meanwhile, truce talks held in Belarus did not yield any result.
