Ukraine ceasefire: western countries 'hopeful but skeptical'

Western leaders have expressed hope — mixed with generous doses of skepticism — about the long-term prospects of the ceasefire between Kiev and pro-Russian rebel fighters.
On the ground, the ceasefire seemed to hold on its first day. The conditions for the truce, which was proposed by Russia, include pulling back weapons and releasing prisoners from both sides in the conflict areas of eastern Ukraine.
British prime minister David Cameron said the west needs to “look carefully" at whether there is “real progress on a proper peace plan”.
