Ukip effect: Ed Miliband pledges tougher line on migrants
October 12 , 2014
Responding to the growing popularity of Ukip, Labour leader Ed Miliband has said that his party will introduce tougher measures so that migrants to Britain “earn the right” to welfare and state benefits.
In an article in the Observer, the Labour leader admitted that the anti-EU party’s recent electoral success could no longer be ignored by his own party.
In Greater Manchester’s Heywood and Middleton seat, considered to be a Labour stronghold, Ukip lost the poll by only 617 votes, sending alarm bells ringing in the Labour camp.
