UK flooding: People being evacuated

  • UK flooding: More troops deployed to Northern England

    The government of the United Kingdom has admitted that every defense will need to be reviewed as the devastating floods that struck the country on Christmas will return this week. As per media reports, the floods forced thousands of people to flee their homes and around 10,000 homes were without power. Forecasters have said that more rains are on the way. Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, has deployed an additional 200 soldiers in Northern England. With this the total comes to 500.

    As flooding continues to affect northern England, Emergency teams are evacuating people from homes in York. As per media reports, around 3,500 properties are at risk and between 300 to 400 people near the River Ouse and River Foss in York have been advised to evacuate. Hundreds of flood warnings and alerts have been issued in England, Wales and Scotland.
