December 9 , 2014
China has reportedly jailed seven students of Ilham Tohti, the Uighur scholar who was given a life sentence in September.
The students are convicted of separatism, and got sentences ranging from three to eight years. Their trial took place in the troubled Xinjiang region of western China.
According to the charges against them, they contributed to an online site on Uighurs that was run by Tohti, who was himself sentenced for separatism and promoting ethnic tensions.
