U.S. embassies to stay closed all week
August 5 , 2013
Sunday's closure of US embassies and consulates has been extended in 19 cities. The State Department said the closure is not due to to any new threat but only an indication of their commitment to exercise caution.
Some posts including those in Egypt and Jordan will stay closed while the others will reopen on Monday as planned. According to politicians, Sunday's closure was necessary since the nature of the threat was very specific. A number of US officials have also described the threat to being "the most serious in years" and said the terror groups were in the final stages of planning the operation.
