Two major storms hit Australia, knock off power supplies

  • Australia has been hit by two major storms that have led to evacuations and loss of power supply to thousands of homes, media reports stated. Cyclone Marcia landed at the Queensland coast. Initially a category five storm, it was later downgraded to category three, but the weather department has warned of unusually high tides and heavy rain.

The second storm, Cyclone Lam, made landfall at the Northern Territory, moving in a south-westerly direction from Elcho Island.  Some houses have suffered damages because of the storms, but no injuries were reported.
