Two batches of flu vaccine suspended in Italy
November 28 , 2014
An anti-flu vaccine’s two batches have been suspended in Italy after reports of three deaths linked to it, media reports say.
Fluad is manufactured by Novartis, the Swiss pharmaceutical giant.
AIFA, the pharmaceutical watchdog of Italy, described the suspension as a precautionary step.
The three victims, two women and a man, were senior citizens, according to media reports. Novartis said in a statement that "no casual relationship” to Fluad had been established.
The two batches conformed to “all production and quality standards,” the firm reportedly said.
