Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's Twitter Account Hacked by "Simswapping"
August 31 , 2019
Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey’s Twitter account was reportedly taken over by a group of hackers (calling themselves the Chuckling Squad) briefly. The hackers also made highly offensive and racist tweets through the compromised twitter handle for around 15 minutes. In a statement, Twitter acknowledged hacking of Jack Dorsey’s Twitter account but blamed an unnamed mobile operator for the security breach. The statement said “The phone number associated with the account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider.” Twitter claimed that the hackers were able to compose and tweet through text messages from the concerned phone number by adopting a technique called "simswapping" or "simjacking" to take control of Mr Dorsey's account. While the issue was resolved shortly after the hack, Twitter said that their system was not compromised.
