Turkey Suspends Thousands of Police Officers over Gulen Links
April 27 , 2017
As per reports, more than 9,000 officers from Turkey’s police force were suspended for having links with the US-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen. The action has reportedly been taken on the basis of national security.
In the last operation against supporters of Gulen, more than 1,000 people were detained by the authorities.
The recent sweep came just over a week after President Erdogan won a controversial referendum on raising his powers.
Opponents fear that it might get him closer to authoritarian rule.
