Turkey: Curfew on Kurdish city of Cizre lifted
September 12 , 2015
The Turkish government has lifted a week-long curfew on Cizre, a south-eastern city with a mostly Kurdish population.
It was placed under curfew after troops started an operation against Kurdish militants in the area.
According to reports, there have been civilian deaths and concerns are being raised about food and water shortages in the city.
Turkey says Cizre is a hotbed of PKK militant activities, but Turkey's leading Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas said the curfew was like a “death sentence” for the city’s residents.
